New directors for HPSC TerrSys and Geoverbund ABC/J

Since October 1, Prof. Harrie-Jan Hendricks-Franssen has been the new Director of the Competence Center High-Performance Scientific Computing in Terrestrial Systems (HPSC TerrSys). He takes over the task from Prof. Stefan Kollet, who has held the position since the foundation of the HPSC TerrSys in 2012. The Scientific Director is elected regularly for a period of three years.

Prof. Hendricks-Franssen will be supported by Dr. Slavko Brdar, who has been confirmed as coordinator of the Simulation Laboratory Terrestrial Systems (SimLab TerrSys) by Geoverbund ABC/J’s steering committee. The competence center HPSC TerrSys provides direct access to the supercomputers of Forschungszentrum Jülich and thereby offers professional and technical support to the members of Geoverbund ABC/J.

For another two years, Prof. Harry Vereecken was elected Scientific Director of Geoverbund ABC/J by the steering committee. "At a time when the universities in Aaachen, Bonn and Cologne are also in competion with each other due to their applications for the Excellence Universities, it is good to have this important position for the geosciences in the ABC/J research region in Jülich - despite the otherwise exemplary cooperation within the geoscientific network," says Prof. Helmut Brückner (University of Cologne), who will hand over the position of Deputy Scientific Director to Prof. Florian Wellmann (RWTH) in January 2019 after more than six years.
