EU-project Resilient Forests
Objective of this EU LIFE project is the development of a decision support system for forest management at the watershed scale that improves the resilience of forests to climate change, enhancing the basin resilience to wildfire and other climate induced disturbances, such as water scarcity and environmental sustainability.
The project is lead by the Technical University of Valencia (Spain). The Agrosphere institute of Forschungszentrum Julich is involved with two PhD-projects: (i) for the project sites (including Wüstebach in the Eifel and a site near Serra in Spain) and other LTER-sites across Europe ecohydrological simulations are performed to reconstruct past hydrological and ecological states and make future projections of these states (Harrie-Jan Hendricks-Franssen and Heye Bogena); (ii) high resolution climate projections for the EUROCORDEX domain with TerrSysMP-simulations at 12km resolution and the provision of local, site-specific, downscaled climate projections (Klaus Goergen and Stefan Kollet). Project partners are the Technical University of Valencia (Spain), the University of Coimbra (Portugal), the European Biomass Industry Association (Brussels, Belgium) and the Municipality of Serra, Spain.
